ISA GRASSI IS A TALENTED MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST BORN IN BRAZIL, RAISED IN ITALY AND CURRENTLY AN ILLUSTRATION MAJOR AT THE ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. SHE IS TECHNICALLY AN ILLUSTRATOR, ALTHOUGH SHE CONSIDERS HERSELF AN ARTIST - VAGUER. “TO SAY YOU ARE ONE THING WOULD MEAN NARROWING DOWN YOUR PERSONA, AND THAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT ANYONE REALLY. I DON’T THINK PEOPLE ARE JUST ONE THING.” FIVE MONTHS AGO, SHE HAD THE GREATEST IDEA TO START THIS EXCITING PROJECT, THE POLAROID PROJECT. AS THE NAME SUGGESTS, IT’S A PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT BASED ON POLAROIDS WITH MUSICIANS AS THE MAIN SUBJECT. THE MID-1970S ARE A MAJOR INFLUENCE IN HER WORK. UNDERGROUND FILM AND NO WAVE CINEMA HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION. SHE ATTENDS AN AWFUL LOT OF CONCERTS AND ALWAYS FINDS HERSELF EXCHANGING A FEW WORDS WITH THE ARTISTS WHO PERFORM. SHE THOUGH IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO CAPTURE A PLACE AND TIME THAT WILL BE DOCUMENTED FOREVER. "YOU COULD SAY IT’S MY ODE TO MUSIC. MY WAY OF GETTING BACK TO ALL THE WORK THESE PEOPLE DO, IT'S MY WAY OF SAYING THANK YOU."  "IT’S A DOCUMENTARY WHERE THE SUBJECT PORTRAYED HAS FULL FREEDOM OF CHOICE ON WHAT TO GIVE ME, I JUST FRAME IT. I ESSENTIALLY EXPOSE PEOPLE. I STRIP THEM DOWN SO THAT THE FIRST THING YOU SEE IS A PERSON AND NOT THE NAME THEY’VE MADE FOR THEMSELVES AMONGST OUR SOCIETY."
